Thread Color Change
After completing this module, students will be able to correctly tie a knot for a thread color change.
Objectives:
-
Students will learn steps to tie a correct knot for a thread color change so that the machine does not need to be re-threaded.
Students will need to know how to tie a correct color change knot for the following reasons:
-
color change
Let's get started!
Step 1:
Watch the video, below, about how to tie a knot in order to change thread color on the Elna 970.

Step 2:
Now it's your turn! Rewatch the video next to the Elna 970. Find all of the parts of the machine and thread cones mentioned in the video. When you feel comfortable finding all of the parts and thread cones, then try it yourself - change the thread color for needle one. Use the video for reference and stop/reverse the video as needed to help you along.

Step 3:
Now, change the color of thread for the remaining six needles. Be sure to tie your knot properly. You can also use the video for reference when needed.

Step 4:
Evaluation
After you have practiced several times at changing thread color, you will need to submit a thread color change video as evidence that you have tied a color change knot correctly and the knot passes through the eye of the needle.
To do this:
-
Use the rubric (pdf), below, and the "Changing Thread" video as a reference.
-
Take a video of you tying a color change knot to change thread color and of you pulling the thread through the eye of the needle.
-
Make sure the video is clear and shows you tying the knot and pulling the thread through the needle.
-
Name the video appropriately. Video format can be .mp3, .mp4, or .wmv.
-
Email the video to your instructor.
-
If the video is too large to send through email, share your video with your instructor through Google Drive.
