Module 4:

Stitch Built-In Design

Floral Embroidery

Students will learn how to load a built-in design and stitch the design.

Objectives

  • Given fabric and stabilizer, students will load the hoop onto the machine, load a built-in design, change needle thread color (if necessary), and stitch the design.

Students need to know how to stitch a built-in design for the following reasons:​

  • Load designs on the machine

  • Load the hoop, with fabric and stabilizer, onto the machine

Let's get started!
*Note:  During Step 4:  Evaluation, we will be meeting using Google Meet this coming Tuesday, December 10, 7-8pm.  Please plan accordingly.
Step 1:
Read "Selecting the Built-in Designs" section in the pdf below.

Step 2:
Now it's your turn!  Reread the "Selecting the Built-in Designs" instructions near the Elna 970.  Find all of the parts of the machine and buttons mentioned in the text.  When you feel comfortable finding all of the parts and buttons, then try it yourself - load a built-in design.  Use the text for reference.  If necessary, change the thread color.

Step 3:
Stitch a Built-in Design
Using the "Selecting the Built-in Designs" pdf (above - Step 1), stitch a design of your choice.  Make sure to use appropriate thread color.
When finished, trim your stabilizer.  If you need help, find the page of the stabilizer that you are using and refer to the removal section in the pdf, "Just Embroider It!  All About Stabilizers" in Module 3:  Choosing Stabilizer.
Make your project neat and presentable.

Evaluation
After you have completed your project from step 4, get ready to present it to the class!

When:  Tuesday, December 10, 7-8 p.m. CST
Why:  Share your Module 4 project with the class
At this meeting, you will share your project with the class.  Please follow this simple format to prepare for the online meeting.
  • Introduce yourself.
  • Describe your design.
  • Describe the fabric that you chose for the project.
  • Name the type of stabilizer you chose and explain why you chose it.
  • Share any other information you'd like about your project.
Refer to the Rubric, "Presenting Your Built-in Design" for additional information about the presentation.

EVALUATE

If you are unable to attend the online meeting, you will be docked 5% from your project grade.  You will need to prepare a video presentation of your project and submit the video to your instructor.
To do this: 
  1. Make a video presentation.
  2. Make sure the video is clear and shows you and your project.
  3. Name the video appropriately. Video format can be .mp3, .mp4, or .wmv.
  4. Email the video to your instructor.
  5. If the video is too large to send through email, share your video with your instructor through Google Drive.
Congratulations!  You're finished with Module 4 and have mastered how to stitch a built-in design.
In the next module, you will learn how to provide maintenance for your machine.
